Year-by-Year Playoff Summary 1970 - Scottsboro 24, Decatur 0 - Barry Talley rushes for 181 yards and three touchdowns in Wildcats first ever playoff game. Wildcats rush for 225 yards as a team, holding the Red Raiders to 92 rushing yards. 1970 - Lee Montgomery 35, Scottsboro 8 - The Generals rush for 412 yards in defeating the Wildcats and held Barry Talley to only 75 yards on 19 carries. Talley also scored Scottsboro’s lone touchdown for the game. Lee went on to defeat Minor 27-7 for the Class 4A title. 1976 - Walter Wellborn 35, Scottsboro 7 - Senior quarterback Don Jacobs managed Scottsboro’s only score as the Panthers rushed for 317 yards, and 22 first downs in the win. 1980 - Scottsboro 7, Butler 0 - The Rebels held Scottsboro to 54 yards total offense and four first downs but the Wildcats pulled out a squeaker in posting their first playoff win in ten years. Scottsboro defense recovered three Butler fumbles. 1980 - Grissom 34, Scottsboro 7 - Tigers avenge a 20-10 regular season loss to Scottsboro in defeating the Wildcats. Scottsboro managed only 26 rushing yards on 21 attempts while Grissom rushed for 236 yards. Scottsboro’s lone score came on a pass from Barry Chandler to Lance McConnell. 1985 - Gadsden 31, Scottsboro 6 - The Gadsden Tiger defense held Scottsboro to 96 yards total offense while recording over 300 of their own. The toe of Chris Shrader accounted for all of Scottsboro’s points with field goals of 35 and 38 yards. 1987 - Huntsville 38, Scottsboro 3 - Chris Anderson and the Crimson Panthers held the Scottsboro offense in check at Joe Davis Stadium. The Panther defense held Scottsboro rushing to -9 yards while Wildcat QB’s completed 12 of 23 passes for 143 yards. 1988 - Decatur 21, Scottsboro 16 - The Red Raiders scored 14 fourth-quarter points in a come-from-behind effort over Scottsboro. Pat McCamey rushed for 111 yards and Rob Carlisle booted a 48 yard field goal for the Wildcats. 1989 - Scottsboro 34, Decatur 31 - Trailing 21-7 at halftime, Scottsboro kicked a triple-overtime field goal on the game’s final play in an Ogle Stadium classic. The game was 21-21 at regulation, 24-24 after the first overtime and 31-31 after the second overtime. 1989 - Parker 31, Scottsboro 0 - The Thundering Herd scored 18 fourth-quarter points in spoiling Scottsboro’s first home playoff game since 1980. The Herd defense held a very potent Scottsboro offense to only 10 yards rushing and 47 overall. 1990 - Hewitt Trussville 43, Scottsboro 7 - The Wildcats first area championship since 1980 was spoiled at Trammell Stadium with a first round elimination to the Huskies. Forest Harrington was 10 of 17 for 120 yards and a touchdown for Scottsboro. 1991 - Hewitt Trussville 28, Scottsboro 6 - The Wildcats faced the Huskies for the second straight year at Trammell Stadium. Tracey Wellington rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown for Scottsboro. 1994 - Scottsboro 35, Bob Jones 8 - Scottsboro’s ground game racked up 349 yards (8.3 per rush) en-route to first round win over the Patriots. John Linville carried 9 times for 118 yards while brothers Kent and Bent Latham each scored in the victory.
1994 - Homewood 39, Scottsboro 14 - The Patriots took a 21-0 halftime lead and kept the Scottsboro offense in check at Trammell Stadium. The 1994 Wildcats provided fans with a look at exciting things to come over the next two seasons. 1995 - Scottsboro 30, Coffee 29 - Trailing 22-14 after three quarters, the Wildcats scored 16 fourth-quarter points in the come-from-behind victory to post Scottsboro's first 11-win season in history. Sophomore quarterback Keith Trimew rushed for 102 yards and Ben Sport converted a crucial two-point conversion in the win. 1995 - Erwin 31, Scottsboro 14 - After John Linville returned the second half kickoff 95 yards for a Scottsboro touchdown, Erwin answered with 14 third quarter points and ended Scottsboro’s most successful season since 1965. 1996 - Scottsboro 34, Anniston 7 - The Wildcats rack up 533 yards offense in rolling past the Bulldogs at Trammell Stadium. Corey Wellington rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns and Gary Griffin added 198 rushing yards and a score. Zac Nichols led Scottsboro defensively with 14 tackles. 1996 - Scottsboro 42, Etowah 35 - Two of the top 5A teams in Alabama locked horns in a shootout at Attalla. The Wildcats rushed for 425 yards on 70 attempts and converted 6 of 6 fourth-down conversions in posting the schools first second round playoff win. 1996 - Bradshaw 38, Scottsboro 37 - The Bruins outscored Scottsboro 28-16 in the second half and four Wildcat turnovers were costly in the team’s first-ever third round playoff game. 1997 - Scottsboro 27, Pinson Valley 6 - QB Keith Trimew rushed for 239 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns as Scottsboro cruised past the Indians. Zac Holt made 16 stops for the Wildcats on defense in the first round victory. 1997 - Scottsboro 35, McAdory 34 - Perhaps the most exciting playoff game in Scottsboro history as the Wildcats’ Ryan Bohler blocked an extra point attempt as the Yellow Jackets prepared to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. Crandall Strong rushed for 142 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win. Chad Green had 15 tackles. 1997 - Scottsboro 37, Anniston 0 - The Wildcats defense shutdown the much heralded Cassinious Moore and blanked the Bulldogs 37-0. Erik Alexander returned a Bulldog fumble 57 yards for a touchdown as the Dogs were held to 88 yards rushing in the game. 1997 - Etowah 21, Scottsboro 13 - Two first half turnovers led to two Blue Devil touchdowns as Scottsboro lost one game shy of the title game. Bryan Stewart rushed for 171 yards and scored both Wildcat touchdowns. It was Scottsboro’s first-ever fourth-round playoff game. 2000 - Anniston 32, Scottsboro 21 - The Wildcats first trip to the playoffs in three years ended with a first round loss to the Anniston Bulldogs at Chink Lott Memorial Stadium. Scottsboro fell behind early and could not mount a come-from-behind victory. 2002 - Despite out-rushing the Athens Golden Eagles, Scottsboro fell behind 21-0 after one quarter and lost in the first round 49-22. Blake Earl rushed for 115 yards and scored one touchdown for the Wildcats. Senior Robson Copenhaver set a SHS playoff record with 28 rushing attempts in the game. 2004 - Blake Earl rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns and Cory Knight made ten tackles as Scottsboro cruised past West End for a first-round win. The season came to an end on a wet field in Athens as the Golden Eagles defeated the Wildcats 38-27. 23 Seniors played their last game and one of the greatest coaches in high school football ended a splendid career. 2006 - Tyrell McCamey rushed for 133 yards on 19 carries and scored one touchdown as Scottsboro met Gardendale for the first time in school history. The Wildcats led 20-14 at halftime but were outscored 23-0 in the second half. 2007 - Scottsboro traveled to Alexander City to meet the Wildcats of Benjamin Russell in the first round of the 5A playoffs. After playing to a 14-14 halftime tie, Ben Russell scored 21 unanswered points to win 35-14. Josh White led Scottsboro with 85 yards rushing and one touchdown. 2008 - Scottsboro traveled to Hartselle to face the Tigers in round one of the 5A playoffs. DeUntae Johnson left the game with an injury and the Wildcats fell 41-7, their third straight first-round loss. |
